Reading Books vs. Audiobooks: The Great Debate

There’s nothing like holding a physical book—the texture of the pages, the sound they make, even that distinct “new book” smell.

I love writing little notes in the margins or dog-earing a page because I might come back to it later (I never do). But then there’s audiobooks: efficient, mobile, hands-free. They’ve rescued me from countless boring commutes and laundry sessions. I can “read” a chapter while grocery shopping or walking my dog. Magic! But do they give the same feeling?

The immersive experience of getting lost in a book you physically turn the pages of? Not quite. I think there’s room for both in our lives. Audiobooks are the future, but paper books—they’re romance.

Curious how audiobooks became so popular? This New York Times article has some fun insights.
